When Sophina Uong was 8 years old she would begrudgingly help out at her mom’s Southern California doughnut shop scooping ice cream, glazing hot apple fritters, rolling and frying Cambodian style eggrolls and obsessively playing Ms. Pac-Man when it was slow and her mom wasn’t watching her like a hawk. She swore then she’d never be in the food business, she wanted to sleep in!
Now, 35 years later, she travels to the South 3 times a year because she simply loves to eat and are continually educating her palate with the best Southern recipes and BBQ tips she can find to feed her adventurous guests back in the SF Bay Area. She can’t get enough gumbo, pirloo, jambalaya, or ettouffee.
Most recently, Executive Chef Sophina has perfected creations at Revival Bar + Kitchen in Berkeley, California and currently curating an unconventional menu for a new upscale Southeast Asian, Filipino, Mexican Taqueria concept in San Francisco. The Food Network Grill Master Champion is also working on her own Oakland restaurant project slated to open winter 2017.
